I really feel a project like this really hits the ISTE standards 1 (Empowered Learner), students had to create customized learning environments to produce their movie and standard 4 (Innovative Designer) because students had to figure out the process to record and edit their final production. I’m sure there are more standards that could fit in, but those two stuck out in my head.
The animations were all unique, and the students learned a lot working in groups to develop a story. They used what ever they could find to creating sets, many of sets were very creative. Next students had to work together to develop process to animate and edit their project.
What’s nice about doing a project like this is that student used just their iPad to write, record and edit their project. Instead of using iPad rigs to hold the iPad in place for animation, we borrowed a few music stands from the Band room.
This project gave students an idea of how complicated animated movies are and a better understanding of the time it takes to create a full animated movie.
