On Thursday, March 8th, the TRIG team that let the change at Tyrone Elementary School presented at the 2018 MACUL conference. The team conducted a panel discussion about this whole process. I have never done a panel discussion before, what I liked about participating in a panel discussion is that each team member only has to prepare for a segment of the presentation, not the whole presentation.
For the panel we had our districts’ assistant superintendent, Tyrone Elementary’s building principal, a classroom teacher, a technology teacher and myself. We each shared from our perspective how we participated in the planning and development of the training. I made the remark a couple times during my segment that the transformation process “takes a village”, and as each of us spoke from our point of view, of what needed to change using technology, the training process, and next steps; it really puts things in perspective. I wonder if we would have shared our thoughts on this process when we started out with our 1:1 journey if our road would have been a little smoother.
We used Keynote in iCloud to collaborate for the presentation. We each added our talking points, but we never were able to meet and do a dry run. I noticed as we all presented we did have one common theme we touched on; how this process was made possible by Apple Education. The administrators both remarked how Apple has support materials and process that our students need today, and the teachers both spoke to the relevance of the training. It was interesting considering up until we presented, we hadn’t discussed that.
In the end we had a great time presenting, and answering questions about our school and helping districts who are working towards making transformations in their classroom and building.
